Lay The Foundation

Lay The Foundation

It’s easy to see how getting the fundamentals to your makeup right is essential for good results, so when I was approached by Bobbi Brown about their new launch of shades for their ‘Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF15 and Skin Foundation Stick’ I jumped at the chance. I have been out many a time in the past thinking I’m looking “good” only to catch myself in the mirror in the toilet to find I look an oily mess, faced with the daunting realisation that if I applied any more makeup I’d look like something approaching a drag queen. I’ve always thought women look so much younger with not a lot of foundation, however now I appreciate it’s all about using the right foundation.

When it comes to choosing the best foundation, you need to look at your skin type, and your desired finish. There are many, many different foundations on the market and it can become quite overwhelming, from liquids to powders, to cream formulations. Then on top of all that the decision of a sheer, medium or full coverage, not to mention the stress of picking the correct colour! With Bobbi Browns new launch of forty three different shades in their two new foundations, picking the perfect one has never been easier. With all those shades to select from you can avoid having a different colour neck to face, always a bonus!!! I started to use Bobbi brown foundations early last year, and I love them. I’m not just saying that either for you cynics out there! I am genuinely taken with them.

Bobbi Brown was the first to bring out foundations with a yellow base years ago, which makes sense, we don’t all need to look like Barbara Cartland and I did use it back then. We now know we don’t need everything pink on our face to give us that colour and that much sought after youthful look. That said I have to confess I am partial to a bit of pink blusher, ssshhh ;)

The first top selling foundation now available in forty three new shades is the skin foundation stick.

One of the reasons for my love of this foundation is that it has a transparent base meaning it suits everyone no matter the colour of your skin, or its undertone. It also has ‘skin tone correct pigments’ which smooth out any pigmentation you may have and covers redness. This is all achieved whilst still looking natural. Another feature of this foundation is its use of ‘smart technology’ - a boon if you have dry skin - which uses moisturisation that doesn’t cling to dry patches or flake off. If you have oily or combination skin it uses oil control so that it doesn’t slide off, which is great for me as I tend to suffer from an oily T-zone. It’s a performer this foundation, as it keeps a natural finish when other products such as powders or creams are applied over it. I found that it’s best applied with a damp beauty sponge or dense foundation brush. It is priced at £32.

The second top-selling foundation, again in forty three shades is the Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF15 which gives a fuller coverage. It has a sixteen hour wear time that’s perfect for a full day, which for me does away with the worry that it’s going to disappear, feeling the need to touch-up throughout the day. That sense of confidence that your makeup is stable really is just a joy.

The foundation gives a matte finish which can be great for controlling oily skin, although it is still buildable allowing highlighter to be applied on top. Despite the full coverage it provides it is also ‘multi-dimensional’ so that it doesn’t leave you looking cakey, keeping the skin looking natural and leaving you looking like you. The formula is breathable and comfortable to wear, not clinging to those dreaded ageing lines. Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation is durable, resisting oxidisation and staying true-to-colour for the whole sixteen hours. Again this is best applied with damp sponge or a foundation brush. It’s also £32.

For me, I love the foundation stick. I like to apply this over my T-zone as I feel I need the most coverage here and it helps control the oil in that area. I was matched up with the colour ‘warm beige’ which suits me perfectly.

Features in addition to all this that are worth a mention:

  • Paraben-free; sulfate-free; phthalate-free; sulfite-free

  • Vegan friendly and gluten free

  • Dermatologist tested

  • Non-acnegenic

I would pay a visit to the lovely ladies at @bobbibrownuk stores who will answer any questions, plus you can get a free foundation sample, patched to your perfect shade so you can see which one works best for you.

I can’t recommend these products enough, and at £32 what’s not to love. X
